Rowayton Pickleball LLC was created in 2021 by a group of Rowayton residents with the shared purpose of building a community of Rowayton pickleball players and finding a permanent location for pickleball courts in Rowayton.
In early 2021, the opportunity arose to create temporary courts at the Rowayton Train Station because the parking lot was empty with so few people commuting to NYC during to the pandemic. With the support of the 6TD Commissioners, Tammy Langalis, John Igneri, and the late Mike Barbis, the train station courts were launched in May 2021.
In early 2022, the Rowayton Tennis Association and the 6TD agreed to have Court 5 at Bayley Beach lined for both pickleball and tennis and Rowayton Pickleball covered the cost of this improvement. Court 5 now has two pickleball courts. RTA members can reserve the courts and 6TD residents are able to use the courts when the RTA hasn't reserved them. For information on how to join the RTA and play pickleball on Court 5, please go to www.rowaytontennis.org.
A different group of pickleball players decided to continue playing at the train station and took over responsibility for those courts. Rowayton Pickleball LLC is no longer involved with the courts at the Rowayton Train Station.
While Rowayton Pickleball is delighted with the opportunity to play pickleball on Court 5, we have been working with the Mayor and Norwalk P&R to find a permanent, dedicated home for pickleball in Rowayton. We recently received confirmation that Norwalk P&R plans to renovate the tennis courts at Rowayton Elementary School to have four dedicated pickleball courts and a tennis court with four more pickleball courts lined on top of it.
